Q1. “I’ll take the risk.” What is the risk? Why does the narrator take it?

A. The risk of heading straight into the storm is being referred here. In spite of heading back to Paris to avoid any risk, he rather ventured to reach his destination navigating through the storm. He does so, so that he can reach his destination and meet his family members.

 

Q2. Describe the narrator’s experience as he flew the aeroplane into the storm.

A. The narrator was frightened beyond extent, the moment he lost control of the plane. Compass and other instruments were broken; he was left with nothing to navigate further. The storm was too strong to be conquered. Nothing outside the aeroplane was visible but suddenly in the midst of nowhere, an unknown plane came in front of him and the pilot was gesticulated to help him. The narrator followed the plane for half an hour and his fuel was almost empty; and later the pilot guided him out of the storm and he landed safely. However, he couldn’t find the black aeroplane anywhere.

 

Q3. Why does the narrator say, “I landed and was not sorry to walk away from the old Dakota…”?

A.  The narrator landed on an unknown place; however he was happy to have a safe landing. The moment he landed, he left his plane unattended to enquire about the whereabouts of the other plane that helped him. Quite shocking he felt to know that there was no plane flying other than his that day.

 

Q4. What made the woman in the control centre look at the narrator strangely?

A. The woman in the control centre gave a very strange look to the narrator as she was surprised to see a plane flying in this much bad weather.

 

Q5. Who do you think helped the narrator to reach safely? Discuss this among yourselves and give reasons for your answer.

A.  The question can have two answers:

Answer A: The person was quite an expert pilot who used his own conscience to navigate through the storm to reach a safe landing station. His own conscience became a guiding force to help him come out of the storm.

 

Answer B: The person followed a divine intuition that led him to land safely. Following the divine intuition or instruction, he navigated through that huge black storm and landed safely.
